Startup funding begins with a plan people can assess
Can someone understand what you are building, why it can work and what the funding will make possible?
A funding conversation needs a clear explanation of the business behind the idea. Who will buy, what will they pay for and what needs to happen before you can deliver? Your business plan gives those questions a place to be answered and assessed.
I begin with what the founder already knows. Customer conversations, practical experience, supplier information and early sales can all contribute useful evidence. We also identify what remains an assumption. Keeping that distinction visible helps the reader understand both the opportunity and the work still required.
Describe the customer’s problem in language someone outside your industry can follow. Explain your offer, the alternatives available and why a customer might choose you. Then connect the offer to the way the business will operate. A promising idea needs a credible route to finding customers and serving them.
The financial story needs the same care. BDC’s business-planning guidance includes expected revenue, costs, financing requirements and cash-flow projections. These figures should connect to assumptions that can be explained: customer volume, pricing, delivery costs and the timing of payments.

For example, a training startup might estimate demand from its planned courses, the places available and the price per participant. We would also examine the costs of delivering each course and the resources needed before enrolment produces income. That makes the forecast something the founder can discuss and revise.
Explain what the requested financing will allow the business to accomplish. Link the proposed spending to a practical stage of development and show how progress will be assessed. A reader should be able to follow the relationship between the funding request and the business activity it supports.
The plan also needs to match its audience. Ask the lender, investor or program administrator which information they require, then organize the material accordingly. A clear plan supports their assessment; the financing decision remains theirs.
If you are preparing to seek funding, start by gathering what you already have. I can help turn your knowledge, evidence and approved financial information into a business plan that explains the next stage of your startup.
