CRAVE GENIUS FIELD NOTES

Measure creative before making more of it

What does the work need to achieve, and what evidence would justify the next batch?

Before producing more creative assets, review what the existing work is meant to accomplish. A design that introduces the business, an advertisement that prompts an inquiry and a presentation that supports a sales meeting each have a different job.

Choose a measure that relates to that job. Attention may be useful when the aim is awareness, but a business seeking qualified inquiries also needs to know whether the right people are responding. Connect the creative review to the next step in the customer journey.

Google Analytics allows important recorded actions to be marked as key events. That can help assess activity such as completed inquiries. To understand the value to the business, follow the inquiry beyond the website and review what happened in the sales or service process.

Compare like with like where practical. A change in audience, placement or offer can affect the result even when the creative stays the same. If several things change together, record that context so the team understands what can reasonably be concluded.

Look at qualitative feedback too. Sales conversations may reveal that a headline creates the wrong expectation or that a diagram explains something customers find difficult. Those observations can identify a useful improvement that a simple count of clicks would miss.

Allow a suitable period for the work to be used. A small audience or a long buying process may give you limited evidence in a short window. Agree on what you will review and when, then use the findings to decide whether to refine an asset, change the approach or develop more material.

AI can assist with analyzing relevant performance data. In my Creative service, the response to those findings remains human creative work. I develop the revised message, composition and assets, then review them against the agreed purpose.

If your team is producing content without a clear reason for the next batch, we can start by defining the job, the evidence available and the most useful creative change. That gives ongoing production a direction the business can assess.
